قالت وكالة إنفاذ القانون التابعة للاتحاد الأوروبي، إن الشرطة في جميع أنحاء القارة الأوروبية أنهت تحقيقاً لمدة عامين بشأن شبكة إجرامية ضخمة كانت تستخدم شاحنات لتهريب المهاجرين إلى أوروبا الغربية.
وقالت يوروبول اليوم الخميس، إن الشرطة في رومانيا احتجزت 4 أشخاص يشتبه في أنهم أعضاء في العصابة، حيث قاموا بتهريب 580 شخصاً من خارج أوروبا عبر مدينة تيميشوارا الرومانية إلى أوروبا الغربية.
وبحسب يوروبول، فإن العديد من المهاجرين فقدوا حياتهم خلال السنوات الأخيرة بسبب وضعهم في شاحنات ضخمة دون هواء أو ماء.
وأشارت الشرطة الأوروبية إلى أن الشرطة الألمانية بدأت التحقيق الذي شاركت فيه السلطات النمساوية واليونانية والمجرية والبريطانية والتشيكية.
وأضافت، أن العصابة تتكون من 36 شخصاً على الأقل، وقد جمعوا أكثر من 2.2 مليون دولار من هذا النشاط الإجرامي.
